Envisioning IoT applications in a smart city to underpin an effective municipal strategy: The smartbin project

Due to the Earth’s population rapid growth and modern lifestyle, urban waste creation rate constantly increases.Organic waste, which forms a significant part of municipal solid has caused increasing environmental concerns. Recycling is only way make sustainable environment. According estimations from United States Environmental Protection Agency, around 24 percent total can be composted. Instead, most it land filled incinerated. By composting organic waste,we preserve resources produce valuable by-product that used as locally produced fertilizer. In this paper, we propose solution: low-cost effective Smart Compost Bin utilizes technologies, such sensors LoRaWAN protocol assist with compost process.A centralized Information System collects measurements smart bins deployed anywhere further collection process. We have performed several experiments our bin prototype, evaluated its efficiency concluded feasible solution.
